Robin White

Robin White came to Little Rock after growing up in Texas, but we won't hold that against her. She's recently taken an active part in the GLBT community and we're glad she's here.

We asked Robin how she ended up here: “I spent the first 18 years of my life living in Texas, and I came out here to the Natural State for college. These days I'm living in the Little Rock area with my wife.

While Robin is employed by the state, she says she isn't in a career yet, but is thinking of going to graduate school.

Asked what kind of things she's done for the GLBT community, Robin said, “I haven't really done a lot of work for the community per se — mostly I've just been out and proud and visible.

We asked for her thoughts on coming out, advice to others, etc.?

“Coming out is never an easy thing to do. It takes guts, and it's hard to guess how your friends and family will really react. But in the end, it's worth it. Always be true to yourself first … everything else will take care of itself after that.

What do you see in the near future and long-range for gay rights/equality?

“I see a lot of resistance and a lot of struggle in the campaign for gay rights, but I think eventually (whether it's 10 years or 100 years down the line) our community will come to be accepted like every other part of the population.

You can't live happily if you always second guess the past. It's best not to think about it. Good or bad, you did it. But I suppose if I *must* choose something, I would not have lied to my teacher in the 5th grade about being late for class. It's a small thing, I know, but I felt guilty about that for years!
